4.29.09 Before I forget - a NAN Auction Preview!

A few weeks ago you saw a photo of "Enviado #2" in plain white bisque -- now he's a deep golden palomino with fun sabino markings, finished with a gloss glaze.

You will be able to see more pictures of him very soon, either at lafnbear.com or the NAN Auction webpage. ~ Lynn

4.28.09 Gone Pecan -- Days 2 & 3

Progressing steadily eastward....

By the time we had rested overnight in Fort Collins, Colorado and then trekked across the Great Plains of Nebraska to reach western Iowa, the weather had become much more spring-like. After a nice steak dinner (what else?) in Omaha we burned the remaining daylight to reach Des Moines, Iowa. We were pleased to see continuing investment in wind turbine technology in western Iowa -- each turbine was a-spinning out electrons on that blustery Monday evening!

The idea of turbines and windmills is not new in Iowa. Just southeast of Des Moines is the little town of Pella -- widely known for those nice Pella windows. Pella, the town, is a charming link to Holland, complete with Dutch architecture, bakeries, meat shops, a windmill and an annual Tulip Festival.

Happily for us many of the tulips are in full bloom now, and the Jaarsma Bakery, Ulrich's Meat Market, a little chocolate shop and many other fun stores were all open this morning. YUM!! I so wish we could have stayed longer!

Barry's kickin' back with the tulips now, but tomorrow, Day 4, we start the real work of this trip.
