4.26.09 Gone Pecan

When you're gone, way gone, long gone -- you're gone pecan!

For us that's means we're on the road again, this time trekking back to central Illinois to take care of some family business. So things will be a little quiet in the studio, actual and virtual, for a while.

Here was the view from my "mobile office" window Sunday:

It's still winter in Wyoming folks!

4.20.09 Twenty Four Pages of Notes...

That was just my tally -- Barry filled another couple dozen pages himself I'm sure!

This past weekend we attended a workshop/demonstration of Smooth-On molding and casting products sponsored by FarWest Materials of Walla Walla, WA, and the sculpture department of Boise State University.

First, I must compliment the Smooth-On representative, Tracy, on her well-planned, thoroughly organized demonstrations and engaging presentation of a massive amount information. As she demonstrated the brush-up method of making a mold (photo above) she just kept pulling out pieces prepped for the next stage of work -- like a cooking show that has the fully roasted goose ready to pull out of the oven as the how-to bird goes in.

Even though Barry and I have been working with Smooth-On materials (as well as other brands) for more than a decade now, we had plenty of "Ah-ha!" moments that will be put to good use here at Laf'n Bear. For instance, using pigments to color the different layers of a brush-up mold so that you know darn well if you've covered every bit of the original with each layer. As it turns out, this demo was done in Boise State colors -- blue and orange!
