Harvest Season and the Pedi-bahn

Ahhhhh, late summer and early fall is a miraculous time of year.

The corn stalks are tattered, but the husks peel back to reveal popcorn kernels as beautiful as the state gem of Idaho, the star garnet.

It is Idaho after all...

Our cool damp June may not have gotten the potatoes off to a good start, so these are on the smallish side. Though lacking in bulk they're not lacking in flavor!

"And what," you might ask, "is a pedi-bahn?"

It's just my silly made-up name for the new walkway to the studio that we just finished installing!

After ten years, we had gotten awfully tired of crunching along on gravel. Throughout the spring and summer we bought pavers, a few at a time. In early September we finally had accumulated enough pavers to install them. It took about a week to do it, and I totally shredded a pair of work gloves placing all those pavers, but it's so worth it.

So, the harvest is almost all in (still some herbs and tomatoes to get to before a frost hits), the outdoor furniture has been cleaned and re-stained, and we have our very own "pedi-bahn" for commuting to work. I think we're just about ready to snuggle in for winter.
