Field Trip Fun

Sweltering it may be, but summer is a great time to get out to visit shows and farms. So, armed with camera, sketch book and gallons of water, I've been out roaming the Treasure Valley the past couple of weekends.

Well, you can imagine how my heart went pitter-patter a little faster when I came across this elegant youngster in the barns at the Idaho Horse Park during the appropriately named "Go for Baroque" IALHA show last weekend.

I was thrilled to see such a noble convex profile among the horses at this Andalusian and Half Andalusian event.

The following Saturday morning I had the pleasure of visiting "In the Night Farm", home to a lovely couple, the Baysingers, two sheep, fifteen chickens, one dog, six cats and eight wonderful horses -- seven of whom are Barbs.

Do you sense an Iberian theme for the summer? I do!

This is Tamara Baysinger with one of her younger Barbs, a nifty little gelding who lives up to his name, "Crackerjack"!

I so enjoyed watching Tamara work with her horses.

She emphasizes ground work, literally dancing with her equine partners; building mutual trust, respect and harmony with each step.

Further down the road Tamara, Crackerjack and other In The Night Farms horses will compete in endurance races. You can learn more about that and much more by visiting The Barb Wire, Tamara's blog. There's a link just to the right in my list of blogs.

A huge thanks to Tamara for inviting me to visit, I loved every second!

In mid-July Barry and I are bound for the Moscow area for more field trip fun. It should be cooler up there...
